BBC World News Feature! Yay!

The founder of The Style Compile recently got featured on BBC World News. This has been such an ecstatic feature for all of us and so we thought of sharing the news with our awesomest followers :D

Thank you Sameer Hashmi for the feature! :)

BBC's log India Business Report spoke of New Age Careers - Blogging being one of them. They featured Malini Agarwal of Miss Malini.Com who is an established blogger who makes a living out of blogging.
But, the truth is how many bloggers can make a living from blogging? This is where Sarika Nagdeo spoke!
While most bloggers post pictures of them sporting the latest designer and high street fashion brands, not all readers can really afford their sense of style.
Investing in your wardrobe as a blogger leads to a destructive shopping habit which is difficult to get rid of eventually.
Most bloggers have a full time job and they can afford to splurge on expensive items of clothing whereas newbie bloggers like me who are still studying cannot.
The reality of fashion blogging is that most of the bloggers are not PAID. They live at home with their parents whilst still studying with a mere monthly pocket money.
I as a blogger never felt the need of financially competing with other bloggers because I believe that style comes from within. I would rather rework my closet and present the same outfits in different ways than spend my internship money on designer labels which I would rarely wear.

So how do I survive in the blogging world??
I live on thrifted shops and street style and hence, I do not feel pressured by the wardrobes of my fellow bloggers. I write because fashion and style is what I breathe. I am what I am because of my blog. I have not earned a penny from my blog because I feel that paid reviews tend to make a blogger biased towards a particular brand. Sponsored posts do affect the credibility of your blog and if you fashion is your passion, you should not feel the need to make money from it.

How to Stack your Accessories

Gone are the days when we wore only one bracelet or a ring to accentuate our outfits. Today, style is all in the little details. Hence, go the sartorial way and stack up your bracelets and rings to add an edgy dimension to your outfit. But, stacking your wrists is no child’s play. You can’t just randomly add up all your different bracelets together and say ‘Tada!’
This trend is all about your personal style and creativity. Follow our guide to a perfectly stacked wrist here :
·       As a beginner, start with same metals and texture’s. Once, you are accustomed to this trend, you can experiment with different sizes, metals and colors.
·       I have a very small wrist (read : kid’s wrist), so stacking up bracelets becomes restrictive. If you have a fuller wrist, you can stack up your bracelets till your elbow.

Always keep a theme in mind. For my Biker chic theme, I added grunge with my Youshine Avalanche of Shakles Bracelet and Youshine skull anklet with my thrifted chain bracelet and watch.

Bohemian Chic is all about being a hippy! I added my Limeroad bracelet with my Youshine beaded bracelet and a DIY hand harness. Like I said, my wrist is really small hence, the minimal accessories.

Stacking up Rings can be fun too. If you are a beginner, use the same color and metal. Take cue from this picture and stack up your rings!
I have been recently crushing on Midi Rings! More the merrier is an understatement when it comes to midi rings! They look elegant and feminine when adorned on your fingers. I bought my set of midi rings from Forever 21 for a price of 230 rupees only! :D

Crop It like It's HOT!

Crop tops have become a rage since a year now and the trend just does not seem to go away. Coming from a conservative family, my parents would not like to see me exposing my mid riff and hence, I avoided buying crop tops.

Most college goers, just like me fear wearing crop tops since they do not want to flash their stomach in the public. Well, crop tops are here to stay and here’s how you can add sophistication to your look without exposing your stomach too much.

Take cue from Kim Kardashian who has been sporting the crop top and high waisted skirt look to every occasion. Models too showed a sliver of skin in Dolce and Gabbana’s Spring 2013 collection.

I paired my sporty crop top from with a coordinating high waisted pencil skirt for a more lady like approach to this raging trend.

SIA : Where Jewellery Love Starts

Sia Art Jewellery

SIA Art Jewellery needs no introduction. I was first introduced to their brand when I was ten years old. My mother and I alongwith my relatives went bridal shopping for my aunt and I vaguely remember pestering the sales person to allow me to wear those gorgeous studded bangles. My love affair with jewellery kicked off and instead of asking for toys, I demanded bangles!

Since online shopping has got so much easier, quicker and dependable, I decided to splurge my internship money on American Diamond earrings and stone studded rings. Yes, I have grown and my likes have changed from bangles to earrings now. Although, what has not changed is my trust in SIA!

I logged onto their website https://www.siajewellery.com and was highly impressed with their website layout. Online shopping for jewellery has been made much easier by SIA with their detailed categorizing of products. You can now choose your own product material, color and occasion.

Just when I could not ask for more, I came across the various offers on their website. They have their Flat 50% Store, a 10% off on New Arrivals and a Season Sale of upto 50% discount! It is literally raining discounts at SIA! You are bound to save, therefore why not spend a little more? ;)

To – be – brides, here’s your chance to make people go ‘WOW’ at your wedding with the traditional yet contemporary designs by SIA. With SIA’s jewellery, you can not only impress your elders but also turn your best friend’s face turn green with envy.

Once you log onto their website, make sure you check out their Editor’s Pick section. Carefully chosen trendy and affordable pieces that will make you press the ‘Add to Cart’ button. SIA ships their gorgeous jewellery internationally to 220 countries.

If you have earlier purchased artificial jewellery and are scared about the tarnish, fret not! SIA has a detailed article about Basic Jewellery Care that you can read here.

A Summer Weekend

This season, Ritika Bharwani pays homage to the magic of Morocco with ‘Zellige’, her spring/summer line. Inspired by Moroccan culture, the pieces reflect the detailing and vibrant colors of zellige, an ancient Moroccan tile art and a distinctive feature of Moroccan architecture. Exotic and luxurious, the collection will be available exclusively at Ritika Bharwani's studio and select multi-designer boutiques across India.

With the stylish global traveler as muse, the silhouettes are a combination of free-flowing pieces such as layered gowns, dresses, maxis and jumpsuits. There are also functional separates like jackets, skirts, shirts and crop tops.

The splendor and exquisite detailing of the tiles have been portrayed by the use of distinct geometric graphic prints that have been specially designed for the collection. An assortment of painted mirrors, fine beads and enamel flat beads in various shapes and sizes have been used to highlight the ornamentation of the pieces. Drawing inspiration from zellige, the striking embellishments with embroidered motifs emphasize the play of the pleats against the fabric. Ritika has worked with luscious fabrics such as georgette, voile, crepe, silk jersey and chiffon patti.

The collection has a vivid color palette exhibiting an amalgamation of striking hues of tangerine, canary yellow, radiant aqua fresh, modern black and ivory. Experimenting with new techniques the pieces use light fabrics to showcase the artistic effects of double dyeing with ombre shading and layered draping on different lengths.

Zellige is my homage to the splendor and opulence of Moroccan tradition and tile art. The pieces are high fashion yet very easy to wear making them perfect for a summer weekend getaway at St. Tropez or a beach party in the South of France,” says Ritika Bharwani.

What I love the most about this outfit from Ritika Bharwani is that in spite of its various layers, the fabrics are extremely light weight, making it a versatile piece to own. The vibrant and contrasting colors with the use of embroidered motifs and painted tile prints made me look more beautiful than ever.
Celebrities like Shibani Dandekar and Evelyn Sharma too have caught fancy for Ritika's 'Zellige' collection. They were seen donning her collection at events and editorials too. Have you got a hand at her collection yet? If not, head to her studio!

Men, Take Care

In our previous post, we discussed about what men think of skin care. Clearly, there’s more to skin care then shaving creams and soap bars. Luckily, you can TAKE CARE of your skin easily and it does not require you to spend an enormous amount of money.

Why should you not use a soap bar?
Washing your face with a soap bar can dry out the skin. I would recommend using the Garnier Men Oil Clear Face Wash that meets the needs of all skin types. No, it’s not girly to use a face wash guys…! Make it your routine of using a face wash in the morning and in the night. Face washes tend to remove dirt that has been accumulated on the skin during the day. They aren’t harsh on your skin like the soap bar that you use on your body.
Now here’s the technical part : Soap bars generally have a high pH level which is usually acidic. All kinds of bacteria are bound to get attracted to that soap bar due to the alkaline environment. You don’t want bacteria on your face now, do you?

Skin Care :

The Garnier Men Oil Clear Face Wash is a gentle, simple and effective face wash that clears your blocked pores and leaves your skin feeling soft.

For those with acne prone skin, fret not! Try the Garnier Men Acno Fight Pimple Clearing Face Wash. My teen brother has made this face wash his daily regime just like brushing his teeth.

Also, here’s a tip or two: About half of men wash their face solely with water, says Rob Candelino, vice president of marketing for skin care at Unilever. If you think that splashing your face with water throughout the day will help your skin, you are certainly wrong! Washing your face with water frequently will dry out your skin more.
After washing your face, pat your face with a CLEAN and DRY towel. No rubbing or pulling!
